Gerald L. Appleman

Gerald "Gary" L. Appleman, Jr., 86 of Zanesville, died 3:24 AM, Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Genesis Morrison House Hospice. He was born Monday, March 22, 1937, in Zanesville, the son of Gerald L. Appleman, Sr. and Louise (Paynter) Appleman. He married his beloved wife of over 67 years, Joyce S. (Frick) Appleman on March 25, 1956.
Gary was a longtime active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served on church council, was a 10:30 AM Deacon for many years, and was a member of the Fellowship Club. He was very generous with his time and professional services he provided, not only to his church, but to his community.
He was owner of Appleman Electric for over 66 years. Gary was a former 4-H Advisor, served on the Steering Committee for the Zanes Trace Commemoration and was a past member of the West Muskingum Athletic Boosters, where he served as past president.
Gary was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and family man. He greatly enjoyed the time he spent with his family, and watching his children and grandchildren in all their sporting events.
Gary is survived by his wife, Joyce Appleman; three children, Cindy Derwacter, Lori (Mike) Lones and Kevin (Erin) Appleman; seven grandchildren, Toni (Matt) Tignor, Teria (D’Vante) Lewis, Mandy (Andy) Diehl, Josh Derwacter, Bailey Lones, Hannah Appleman and Kyle Lones; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Marcy (Bill) Bickley; his longtime friend and business partner, John (Brenda) Derwacter and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by one son, Kip Appleman, one granddaughter, Faith Lones and a sister and brother-in-law, Dolly & Gene Dew.
Friends may call from 10:00 AM till 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 128 South Seventh Street, Zanesville. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Pastor Andrew Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park.
